Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

What is PRP therapy?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical treatment which uses the body's own wound healing components as a natural intervention to assist remodelling and rejuvenation of skin tissues.
How does PRP work?
The clients blood is processed into a protein liquid containing a high concentration of growth factors, which is then injected into the desired area.  These growth factors stimulate the body's own healing and repair system to generate new tissue, collagen and blood vessel production.

What can PRP be used for?
PRP can be used on skin tissue all over the face, body and scalp.  It can be used to minimise fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin volume and laxity, reduce appearance of scars and uneven skin texture.  PRP can also help promote hair regrowth.

Frequently asked questions

What happens during PRP treatments?

During PRP treatments, blood is drawn from a vein in the arm. The sample is processed using a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the blood. The platelet plasma is then centrifuged again to produce the injectable protein liquid. The protein liquid is then injected into area to be treated. If PRP therapy is used alongside microneedling; the protein liquid is applied directly to the skin.

How long does PRP treatment take?

Preparation and processing of the PRP liquid takes around 20minutes and around 45-60 minutes for treatment.

Is there any discomfort during PRP treatment?

As with all procedures involving needles, there may be slight discomfort at site of injection. An atopic anaesthetic cream can be applied to area prior to treatment to alleviate sensation.

What is the downtime of PRP treatment?

Clients may experience localised irritation/discomfort, swelling and redness from treatment, this typically subsides around 24-48 hours. Anti-inflammatory pain relief such as Ibuprofen should not be used as it will interfere with the healing process affecting outcome of treatment. Small bruising from blood extraction/injection site may occur. No lasting side effects from PRP treatment so normal activity can resume immediately. It is recommended to refrain from excessive exercise and minimise UV exposure for 24-48 hours after treatment.

How many PRP treatments will i need?

The effects of PRP treatment may take 3-4 weeks* to become evident. Sustained improvement is noticed after several weeks with effects lasting up to 18 months*. The number and frequency of PRP treatments is dependent on the area and purpose of treatment and will be discussed with you during your consultation.

Can PRP treatments be used if I get Botox/Fillers?

The answer is yes. Combining PRP therapy with other treatments such as dermal fillers and anti wrinkle injections significantly enhances improvements in your skins appearance, texture and tone.
